Imtiaz Ahmad had just finished delivering food to the needy when he was shot to death right in front of a shop that he owned. His murder occurred in Nawabshah, Pakistan, where he was a youth leader.

Ahmad was targeted because he belonged to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. As a member of this community, Ahmad had recently witnessed the murder of his uncle who was killed a day after the airing of a religious TV show in which a preacher had issued a fatwa calling for the murder of Ahmadis.

Furthermore, Amnesty International reports Pakistan does not prosecute those who kill members of this community.

Pakistan must end the growing extremism in the country and at minimum, prosecute the criminals who are responsible for these nefarious acts.
