Hello everyone,
This is a short story of myself; ‘Bait-ul-Salam’ (House of Peace), also known as ‘Ahmadiyya Centre Melbourne’. I live in the hearts and minds of my owners, the Ahmadiyya Muslims, but my street address is ‘6 Leisureland drive in Langwarrin’. I am one of the most beautiful architecturally designed buildings in Frankston and in Melbourne.
The land where I stand today has always been a farmland and then in early 1980s my first owner and builder decided to build and designed myself to serve as a ‘theme park’. The massive building and its halls were used as a venue for parties and weddings. It was one of the best times of my early life. But then my owner decided to sell it and then I came under different administrations and organizations.
I almost got abandoned and became a place where ghosts reside but finally Ahmadiyya Muslim Community contacted my then owner and fortunately the deal got finalized. It was year 2006 when Ahmadiyya Muslims took over and within few weeks the community members started organizing what they call ‘Waqar-e-Amal’ (dignity-in-labour) events where tens of Ahmadi volunteers’ men and women would come on every Saturdays and Sundays and would clean my carpets, halls, rooms and my massive grassy grounds. They literally washed the whole building from inside and placed new glasses and doors. Within few months I was given a new life and I myself could not believe what I have become.
Today I stand happy and proud and serve as a place of worship and community centre for hundreds of Ahmadi Muslim men and women who come on every Friday in great numbers and pray in complete unity and peace. They are grateful and proud on my history and heritage. They are thankful to the local authorities and neighbours who have cooperated in every way to bring this building to a new life.
Every year I host Annual Australia Dinners, interfaith events, Clean-up Australia Day events, Red-Cross door knock appeals, Annual blood drives, ‘Australia’s Biggest morning Tea’ events, Eid dinners and celebrations, tours of places of worship for the local school kids and at least 52 Friday gatherings for Ahmadi members and their community events. Hundreds of non-Ahmadi and non-Muslim guests participate in these events and celebrations. I have truly become ‘Proudly-Frankston’ and like my new name a ‘House of Peace and harmony’.
I invite you all to come and visit me and meet my new owners whose motto is; ‘Love for all, Hatred for none’.
