USA: Imam Shamshad of Ahmadiyya Mission attends Ghana independence day celebrations held in Chicago Area

Ghanian are a great nation who help their own people -- Imam Shamshad 

Imam Shamshad of Baitul Jamaay Mosque in Glen Ellyn attended the 58th Independence Celebrations of the West African country of Ghana, held in Dolton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Imam Shamshad, regional missionary of the Ahamdiyya Muslim community, was joined by 350 civic and community leaders, and prominent dignitaries hailing from Ghana at the celebration event which is organized every year to commemorate Ghana's Independence from the British rule.

Imam Shamshad was welcomed by Mr. Sadiq Aboagye who is the general secretary the Ghana National Council. Ghana's national anthem was played that marked the beginning of the celebration. Opening prayer was offered by Evangelist Kwamina Sam. Mr Akua Agyemam, Master of the Ceremony, gave the welcome address.

Mr Akua Agyeman introduced Imam Shamshad and gave him the honor to be the first Speaker of the ceremony.

In his address, Imam Shamshad told the gathering that when he was in Koforidua, capital of Eastern Region in south Ghana -- where he was stationed as a Regional missionary of the Ahmadiyya mission from 1978 to 1982  -- he attended the National Celebrations every year. And, later also, when he was in Maryland, US, for 8 years, he was invited in Washington DC to the Embassy of Ghana for Independence celebration.

"I am very happy to attend Independence Day here in Chicago," said Imam Shamshad, specially because it reminded him of  the hospitality and friendships he received during his 4 years stay in Ghana. "It has created a permanent bond between me and Ghanaians."

Imam Shamshad said his relationship with Ghanaian community was maintained wherever he has been posted in the US; Houston, Silver Spring and Los Angeles.

In the end, Imam advised the Ghanaian community that they should lead a simple life so that they can help, support and extend assistance to fellow Ghanaians in their home country. He advised them to sacrifice money in charity back home instead of spending on designer coffee or alcoholic beverages.

Imam Shamshad thanked them for the honor they bestowed on him and presented a check of 250 dollars to the organization as a token gift from Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission to help them in their endeavors.

After his speech, the people gave him a big round of applause and the president of the council thanked the Imam and  told him that they will try to follow his advice.

Mr Ismail Anani  member of the Ahmadiyya Mission of Chicago accompanied the Imam to the event.
Later delicious dinner and traditional food was served to all present.
