A noted Pakistani cleric has said 'immodest women' caused natural disasters and he went on to compare 'uncovered' women to weapons of mass destruction.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who leads the conservative Jami'at Ulema-e Islam (JUI-F) political party, 'become an online laughing stock' after he said the military should be used to combat women wearing jeans, the UK's The Daily Mail has reported, citing reports in International Business Times and Pakistani media outlets.

According to reports cited by The Daily Mail, Maulana also said that attacks by 'our brothers' the Taliban would stop if all women completely covered their bodies in public.

Rehman is not new to controversy. Hs is also known as "Mullah Diesel" because of his past Diesel fuels distribution permits scandals in certain parts of Pakistan.

Further, according to the reports, "the religious leader compared women to 'sacks of flour' and WMDs," adding that "modern clothing is responsible for everything from earthquakes to rising inflation in the south Asian country."

"The Taliban are our brothers and their angst against the state is justified," Maulana was quoted as saying .

Maulana Rehman praised the Pakistni right-wing pundit Ansar Abbasi for having already identified the cause of Pakistani problems. "As brother Ansar Abbasi has so eloquently put in the past: TTP's suicide bombings are just Allah's wrath upon us," Rehman was reported to have said by the Daily Mail.

"And so there is a need to earmark and eliminate the real enemy of Pakistan: every woman who wears jeans,' he reportedly warned.
