Re the June 2 story Justices back woman in Muslim head-scarf case: The Supreme Court decision was not too surprising as it was expected to remain aligned with the religious-freedom protections of the First Amendment. However, the near-unanimity of the often-divided court, is astounding.

This case will have generational consequences in defining of religious-freedom accommodations. This case boosts America’s role in granting religious freedoms, as opposed to France, a modern and secular democracy that has legislated strict bans on the hijab.

I am proud to see this landmark moment. It makes me prouder, as a Muslim woman, to experience the triumph of America’s best values enshrined in our Constitution.
