Islamic State has claimed their first suicide bombings in Bangladesh at Ahmadiya mosque in Rajshahi's Baghmara upazila, on Saturday, the monitor group SITE said.

It cited Islamic State as saying "soldiers of the Caliphate in Bangladesh" made first suicide bombing at Ahmadi Muslim mosque in Rajshahi Rajshahi during "polytheist rituals". Islamic State — an ultra-hardline Sunni Muslim group that sees Shias as apostates — claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Friday, one killed in a suicide bomb attack at an Ahmadiyya mosque during Jumma prayers at Chakpara village under Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi.

At least 10 others were injured in the incident.

Baghmara police station OC Motiar Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune over phone that the attack was made around 1:30pm Friday at Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at mosque.

The medical examination of the man, who was killed in Friday’s suicide bomb attack on the Ahmadiya mosque in Rajshahi's Baghmara upazila, has confirmed that he was the attacker.

Rajshahi Medical College Hospital's forensic department lecturer Dr Enamul Haque said the man was carrying the bomb in his left side's upper abdomen.

He said four splinters were recovered from the liver of the suicide bomber during the autopsy.

"The man got severe wounds on his left part of body as he was carrying the bomb on that side. So we can say that the deceased is the bomber," he added.

However, police are yet to identify the suicide bomber who is aged about 26.

On November 26, a group of youths opened fire on the devotees at a Shia mosque in Bogra during the Maghrib prayers, killing the muezzin and injuring three others.

Earlier, two people were killed as miscreants hurled hand grenades at a Tazia procession of the Shia Muslims in Old Dhaka, on the occasion of Ashura on November 24.

  1. Their (attacker's) time shall soon come to an end, now that they've attacked Ahmadiyyas directly.

    God will deal with them.
