Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the recent attacks on mosques, temple and Shia gathering are a part of national and international conspiracy against Bangladesh.

The premier made the remarks in an informal meeting of the cabinet on Monday, two ministers who attended the meeting told the Dhaka Tribune.

"Those who want to disrupt war crimes trial are also involved in the conspiracy," the prime minister was quoted by the ministers.

Sheikh Hasina directed all the ministers to keep alert to avoid the repetition of such attacks.

She also suggested to arrange the government programmes marking the New Year in the day instead of night to maintain law and order.

"If we start the practice then general people will also be encouraged to hold New Year celebrations in the day," she added.

The incident happened a month after a group of youths opened fire on the devotees at a Shia mosque in Bogra during the Maghrib prayers, killing the muezzin and injuring three others.

Earlier, two people were killed as miscreants hurled hand grenades at a Tazia procession of the Shia Muslims in Old Dhaka, on the occasion of Ashura on November 24.
