The women’s wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada has launched a national campaign to help remove misconceptions and highlight the significance of wearing the hijab.

The purpose of the drive, titled #JeSuisHijabi, is to relate the wearing of the headscarf to Canadian values of multiculturalism, plurality and tolerance. #JeSuisHijabi also invites Canadians to attend various public workshops, events and special programs across Canada with Ahmadiyya Muslim women.

“Acceptance and diversity are core Canadian values that we should strive to embrace and live by,” said Amtul Noor Daud, national president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association. “This campaign allows for Canadians to come together and engage in peaceful public dialogue to foster a better understanding of the Islamic faith.”

She said #JeSuisHijabi offers an opportunity to Canadians to hear from Ahmadiyya Muslim women firsthand what their faith and identity mean to them.

The Jama’at hopes #JeSuisHijabi will open a nationwide dialogue at all public forums.
