PORT HOPE - Following the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has begun a nation-wide campaign to spread peace, demystify Islam and create religious harmony through a series of presentations.

Port Hope will be one of their stops on Saturday, as the youth of Ahmadiyyat hold more than 135 open houses and make more than 270 visits to more than 35 towns across Canada — with similar events taking place in nine other communities on the same day as the Port Hope visit.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association is a non-profit charitable religious organization in more than 206 countries, with 86 chapters across Canada.

“The recent terrorist attacks in Paris, France by terrorist groups, which has claimed the lives of 129 individuals, has left us saddened,” national executive director Noman Khalil said in a press release from the organization.

“Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association categorically condemns these attacks. Terrorism has never been and will never be the teachings of Islam. These attacks are an attack on all of humanity.

“Such extreme ideologies of terrorist groups like ISIS is a danger to all of humanity and the whole world. These dangerous ideologies must be eliminated with proper education,” Khalil said.

“The actions of ISIS and other terrorist groups has created myths surrounding Islam, which in turn has given rise to hate crimes against Muslims all over the world, including Canada. This is due to the lack of understanding of the true and peaceful teachings of Islam.”

Saturday's open house runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Port Hope Public Library at 31 Queen St.

“We ask the residents of Port Hope to come show their support against terrorism and extremist ideologies at the open house,” Khalil said.
