Perspective: Muslim world must unite against terror | Furqan Mehmud

The prophet Muhammad (saw) taught, "If any one of you is fasting, let him not utter obscenities or act in an ignorant manner, and if anyone insults him or want to fight with him, let him say, I am fasting" (Bukhari).

As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community here in Fitchburg, I wholeheartedly condemn this cowardly act that occurred in Orlando, Fla. The Quran unequivocally states, "... Whosoever killed a person...it shall be as if he had killed all mankind" (5:33).

This attack was not only utterly inhumane but also wholly un-Islamic. Islam and the Quran do not, in any shape or form, call for the killing of homosexuals, and such vigilantism is nothing short of terrorism and is condemnable as such.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this senseless and barbaric atrocity.

True Islam requires one to be engaged in worship and charitable acts with increased focus during the holy month of Ramadan. The prophet Muhammad (saw) taught, "If any one of you is fasting, let him not utter obscenities or act in an ignorant manner, and if anyone insults him or want to fight with him, let him say, I am fasting" (Bukhari). Mass murdering countless innocents aside, even argumentation in the state of fasting is strictly forbidden.

Leadership, however, matters, and the Muslim world is in dire need of it. The Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the largest Muslim organization united under a single Imam recently stated, "We can all see how satanic influences are leading to brutality and murder. Innocent people are being slaughtered and the perpetrators claim they will be rewarded with a place in heaven ..."

It is time that leaders of the Muslim world unite in a forceful dissociation from all acts of terror in the manner exemplified by the Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Please visit us at TrueIslam.com.
