Belize's Ahmadiyya Muslims Condemn Radical Islamist Terror Attacks


So while the Muslims celebrated this Holy day with a feast, this celebration comes at a troubled time for followers of Islam.

Today one of the Muslim communities in Belize City, Ahmadiyya, invited us to their headquarters as they celebrated the end of their 30 day fasting period. An event they call Eid-ul Fitr. After a brief prayer, they celebrated with a big feast, something many of these in the Muslim community look forward to, after 30 days of neither eating nor drinking during daylight hours.

So while the Muslims celebrated this Holy day with a feast, this celebration comes at a troubled time for followers of Islam. Just this week members of the so-called ISIS group coordinated attacks in Istanbul, Baghdad and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

The president of the Ahmadiyya community in Belize spoke to us about the growing political stigma against Muslims around the word.

Currently, there are about 1 to 2 thousand Belizeans who are active members of the Muslim faith.
