‘No country can absorb millions fleeing war’

A human chain of 30,000 people will reach out from Hampshire on Sunday in a symbol of friendship and welcome to refugees in Calais as London’s largest Muslim gathering takes place over the weekend.
The worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (AMC) and fifth Caliph, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, is calling on governments to formulate plans for peace in war-torn companies so refugees can return home in safety.

Tens of thousands of British Muslims will gather at the three-day international gathering, Jalsa Salana, to call for refugees to be provided with shelter and promoting the peaceful teachings of Islam to counter extremist views.

His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, said: “We believe that whoever is deprived or in danger should be given the opportunity to live his or her life with true freedom.”

The Caliph of the world’s largest organised Islamic movement will address the 50th annual convention of the AMC in UK, who will be joined by Muslims from more than 100 countries.

The Caliph said: “The truth is that no single country, and in fact no continent, has the capability to absorb the millions of people who are fleeing their war-torn countries.

“Thus the only solution is to formulate a genuine framework for peace in their countries of origin and to try and bring an end to the cruelty in their homelands.”

He is also urging the international community to fulfill their moral obligation to those displaced by war, while recognising the dangers posed by ‘extremists and terrorists posing as refugees’.

The AMC was established in 1889 and is led by the single largest caliphate in the world, with tens of millions of adherents.

International Jalsa Salana will be held from Friday 12 August – Sunday 14 August at Hadeeqatul Mahdi (Oakland Farm), Green Street, East Worldham, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 3AU.
