A young hiker, part of a mountain hiking group in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno, tragically died after he slipped and plunged into a void on the Civetta.

The victim, a 22 years old boy of Pakistani descent, is identified as Raza Saleem, a 5th-year student from The Ahmadiyya Institute of Modern Languages and Theology, also known as Jamia Ahmadiyya, in Haslemere, Surrey, UK.

Raza Saleem was part of a school hiking group with 8 other people, 7 boys and 2 teachers, when he slipped.

After having spent the night at the Tambe shelter, yesterday morning the group was descending when the boy, who was following last, lost his balance likely due to the icy surface and plunged down 80 meters into a void.

At the call came in around 9 am, according to La Presse news, the emergency health services helicopter took off to Pieve di Cadore, near Belluno, where they managed to land the helicopter with a technician, doctor and nurse at 2,600 meters above sea level. The Young hiker was found dead on the scene. The body was recovered and transported in Forno di Zoldo, in the province of Belluno.

Meanwhile, his shocked fellow hikers were back at Tambe, where the helicopter was able to load 3 to bring them down into the Valley. As soon as the clouds rise they will retrieve the other 5, La Presses had reported.
