“We have been coming to the Hospital for the past four years and this is our 7th trip here."
The Humanity First, a charity organisation has recently donated life-saving materials to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in the bid to consolidate their already existing collaboration in the area of health.
The collaboration between the two institutions began 4 years ago in which Humanity First identified areas of attention within the hospital in order to render assistance.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Ahmadou Samateh, described the collaboration between the two institutions as relevant not only for the two, but the whole country.
“We met Humanity First few years ago when the team of professional health workers came to this country to provide the much-needed service,” he said.
“Initially, the focus has been on training of health personnel in very important life-saving techniques.”
Dr Samateh highlighted their areas of intervention particularly the emergency care of the patients, which he said, could be the most important care one could give to a patient, as it has to be done in a timely manner.
He went on to laud the collaboration between the two institutions as relevant, while commending the Humanity First for their magnanimity.
Dr Samateh noted that any time they come to The Gambia they bring along very expensive equipment many of which, he said, are life-saving materials and also helped their Gambian counterparts in using those materials.
The collaboration between Humanity First, Dr. Samateh went on, went beyond give and take intimacy, pointing out that this humanitarian institution also renovated numerous wards at the hospital.
Asif Hamid, the head of thirteen clinicians, who were in the country, said that Humanity First is a charity organization.
“We have been coming to the Hospital for the past four years and this is our 7th trip here. Each time we come we identify areas that do need attention, and after identifying these areas, then we bring a tailored made team that would contribute towards the need of the hospital itself.” he added.
