As part of their charitable and outreach work members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) organise the Charity Walk For Peace each year.
In 2016 over £500,000 was raised and donations are made to a broad range of UK based and Mayoral charities.
On Tuesday 14 March Arif Ahmad, Northern Coordinator of the Charity Walk for Peace, was joined by Imam Sabahat Karim as they attended the Normanton Town Council Meeting and presented a cheque for £500 to the Mayor of Normanton for his local charities.
Imam Karim also inaugurated the Council Meeting by reading the English translation of the first chapter of the Holy Quran - Surah Al Fatihah. He stated that this beautiful prayer summarised the message of the Holy Quran and the teachings of Islam.
Arif Ahmad was given the opportunity to present the work of the Charity Walk For Peace which is organised and fully funded by AMEA - an Auxiliary organisation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association who's motto is 'Love For All Hatred for None'.
He congratulated the councillors on the excellent work they are doing to support their local community and stated that he hoped that the £500 donation would benefit local residents living in and around the Normanton Area. Normanton is a town with a population of approximately 20,000 close to the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire.
Each councillor was also presented with some information about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association and the work that they do to promote peace and counter extremism under guidance from their spiritual leader - Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.
The Mayor of Normanton, Councillor David Appleyard, was presented with a copy of the English translation of the Holy Quran. He thanked AMEA for their donation and praised their work stating that he had done some research into the organisation and was amazed at how much good work they were doing to promote peace and harmony in society.
