International Women's Day marked on 8 March

Preston Muslim ladies took donations of food, toiletries and gifts to the Preston Domestic Violence Services at the Hope Centre.

Donations were much appreciated and peace leaflets and books were also given to the service users and staff. PDVS was praised for its work with vulnerable women, and reassured that the Preston Muslim Ahmadi ladies were here to support them.

This month was chosen to donate to women's shelters up and down the country in the UK to mark International Women's Day on 8 March. The aim was to dispel misconceptions about women in Islam, and to highlight women's high status in Islam and the equal rights which Islam gives them.

Preston Domestic Violence Services is the first organisation in Preston which exists solely to support adults and children experiencing (or having experienced) Domestic Violence.

"It is a sad fact; that in the past year over 4000 women and girls aged between 16 and 59 have suffered from Domestic Violence in Preston alone," the organization's website says.
