KBR, Jakarta - Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo stated there is no reason for the Kuningan District Government of West Java to withhold the distribution of electronic ID (e-ID) for thousands of Ahmadiyah Manislor congregation, as long as people are willing to fill the religious column with one of the six official religions.

Tjahjo said a community's faith organizations can not be used as a basis by Pemkab to hold someone's e-ID card.

"I only hold the rules, the legal e-ID card must be filled with legal religion, I have religion, it must be written as a religion. The government has a policy line, do not want it to be pushed [unduly]," said Tjahjo in the Ministry of Defense on Wednesday (26/7/2017).

Tjahjo has not decided the follow-up action will be taken. However, He said currently the team from the Ministry of Home Affairs has been heading to Kuningan District to explore the problem.

"I have called the Regent of Kuningan," said Tjahjo, "because of the communication from the community leaders of Manislor group that it is difficult to obtain e-ID card."

Previously, a number of representatives of Ahmadiyah Manislor congregation, Kuningan came to the Ombudsman and the Directorate General of Population Ministry of Home Affairs.

They are protesting the attitude of the Kuningan regency withholding the e-ID cards from the Ahmadiyya people. The Civil Service and Civil Registration Agency has created a conditions for the Ahmadiyya congregation: If these citizens want Islam to be included in their religion columns, then citizens must sign a statement form to enter the religion of Islam and recite the two sentences of shahadah.
