In the after math of Saturday’s gun attack on a political leader by a student of the Karachi University, the institution has decided to hand over to the intelligence agencies the record of all its enrolled students over their widespread associations with the known extremist groups.

The university has further suggested to make compulsory for its students to obtain a 'police character certificate' for their continuous enrollment in the university programs.

According to details, the university’s Vice Chancellor has summoned academic council to hold a session in this regard.

The alleged mastermind of the weekend attack, identified as Abdul Karim Sarosh Siddiqui, is said to be the student of the Karachi University's Applied Physics Department in 2011.

His father is retired professor of the KU.

Police said suspect Abdul Siddiqui is associated with a new outfit Ansar-ul-Shariah Pakistan (ASP) that meanwhile claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt in a Twitter message.

Officers have recovered more than 12 laptops and 20 USBs from the house of Abdul Kareem, who fled during raid in Gulzar-e-Hijri.

Police suspected that a group of students, associated with banned outfits, are active in the university.
