ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, while validating the news about a split in the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), divulged that more than 40 Members of National Assembly (MNAs) were ready to quit.

According to reports, “If Nawaz Sharif does not resign from party presidency, it will create problems for him in next general elections due in 2018,” said the former premier.

Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali said that Zahid Hamid and others deceived MNAs on the issues of the finality of Prophethood and blasphemy, which can’t be tolerated at any cost.

On the other hand, PML-N leaders have advised former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to resign from party presidency. An important decision is expected on November 3 in this regard.

According to the Online news agency, former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif held consultation with dozens of PML-N leaders.

In this context, PML-N leaders have advised former prime minister to resign from the slot to save the party.

Messages of all party leaders have been sent to Nawaz Sharif in London.

According to reports, Nawaz Sharif has held consultation with his friends and he wants to call an important meeting of Punjab Assembly members with Shehbaz Sharif in the chair so that their opinion can be ascertained.

Sources say that Nawaz would make a final decision regarding his resignation in the party meeting on November 3.

Earlier, on Thursday, in a sign of revolt against the PML-N leadership, Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada had suggested that ex-prime minister Nawaz step down as the party president until he comes out of all the problems.

Moreover, there was another report on a meeting of 40 PML-N MPAs from various parts of the province in Lahore. The message emanating from the meeting was the same as had been earlier conveyed with varying degrees of forthrightness: replace Nawaz Sharif with his younger brother as the party head.
