This kind of statistics can feed "a certain number of negative representations"
An American study reveals that the Muslim population will reach between 12 and 18% of France by 2050. For many scholars, religion-based statistics can exacerbate negative images.
An American study predicts an increase of the Muslim population by 2050 in Europe. Among the countries where the increase would be the strongest: Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and France. In the Hexagon, between 12 and 18% of the population could be Muslim according to the study. This would depend mainly on the intensity of the migratory waves.
What interpretation for these statistics
Are these religious statistics reliable? "The results are credible, but like other problems, complicated to predict. On the one hand religion is not like anyother characteristic of population. When you grow up in a Muslim family, you are not obliged to consider yourself as a Muslim " declares Patrick Simon, sociodemograph at INED.
According to him, this kind of statistics can feed "a certain number of negative representations."
