A few years on, in Pakistan, history repeated itself this month. Sadly, news broke of nine killed in a suicide bomb attack claimed by the Islamic State on a church in Quetta on Dec. 17. Those innocent victims, who were attending pre-Christmas services, were attacked by two suicide bombers. Many, including children, were injured in the attack.

When I see the images of those terrified children, I feel the burden of hatred they have to grow up with. This terror ultimately has no place in Islam. Those misguided terrorist groups have no place in a humane, peaceful society.

As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, our worldwide spiritual head, His Holiness, Mirza Masroor Ahmad is working tirelessly on promoting global peace. Speaking to the Archbishop of Canterbury on Oct. 17, he said that there is a need for tolerance and mutual respect in society displayed by all people and communities, and that people must be able to practice their religion freely with no coercion. These are the true teachings of Islam, which will benefit all people. Islam further teaches that causing disorder in society is a great sin.
