The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Australia will be celebrating the opening of the first ever mosque in southern Adelaide. The building, previously a uniting church, was purchased by the community earlier this year. Some minor changes have been made to it for instance, the cross has been replaced with an Australian flag and a big sign reading “LOVE FOR ALL HATERED FOR NONE” is displayed at the front.
More than 250 members of the community no longer have to travel over 30 kilometres to attend the mosque in Beverly. The mosque has been named “Masjid Noor” which means the “Mosque of light”. The mosque will be open for public with guided tours, special exhibitions on display and Q&A sessions followed by dinner.
The national president and grand Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Australia, Imam Inam-ul Haq Kauser will be attending the event in person. He said, “Our mosque will live up to its name and will be a source of bringing the local communities together. Wherever and whenever we build mosques, they serve both as a place for us to worship God and as a place from which we serve mankind.”
The president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Adelaide South, Fareed Bajwa said, “Even though the mosque open day is being celebrated on the 3rd of March, the doors of our mosque are always open for anyone who wants to visit or ask any question.”
