Sun Lakes Yiddish Culture Club visited Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino this month, following the club’s desire to Build Bridges in today’s world.

At the invitation of the President of the Ahmadiyyan Muslim Community, Faheem Ahmed, approximately 50 YCC members and guests, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, visited the Mosque–-the largest in Southern California.

Rabbi Hillel Cohn of Congregation Emanu El in Redlands, also joined the group.

The visitors were warmly greeted by Faheem Ahmed and Imam Irshad Malhi. The Imam provided them with valuable insight on the founding of the Ahmadiyyan Muslims in Pakistan, and the current challenges they face with persecution from “mainstream Muslims.”

Members of the Mosque are committed to principles consistent with the mainstream values shared by Americans to:
Reject all forms of terrorism
Teach non-violent pursuit of self-actualization
Champion equality of education and empowerment of women
Advocate freedom of conscience, religion, and speech
Advocate for the separation of Mosque and State
Command loyalty to our country
Encompass the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Recognize that no religion can monopolize salvation

The Ahmadis Muslim community was founded in what is now Pakistan by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in 1889. This Chino group of Muslims explained to YCC guests their acceptance of all the Prophets including Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Mohamed, and others, and to their current Prophet and Calif, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, now known as “Khalifatul Masih V.”

After introductions and a Q & A session, the YCC group was treated to a wonderful lunch of curry chicken, rice, roasted chick peas, pita bread, and salads. It was a wonderful feast prepared by the Mosque’s own chef.

“Part of the goal of the YCC,” said YCC President David Greenberg, “is to reach out to gain information about our neighbors of the Inland Empire, and to build bridges to a better understanding of the differences, but more importantly, the similarities between our peoples.”
