UK: Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Deputy Mayor and Charity Reps gather to promote the Charity Walk For Peace

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant spoke about the importance of different communities working together to promote good works and how, in his experience, this promotes community cohesion and a better society.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) in Yorkshire and the North East held a Pre Charity Walk For Peace Dinner at St John’s Infants School in Dewsbury on Thursday 29 March 2018.  They were joined by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Mr. David Dinmore, and the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Gwen Lowe as well as representatives from 20 charities and community groups based in the West Yorkshire area.

The Charity Walk for Peace (Registered Charity Number 1161567) raises and distributes money to UK charities.  Funds are raised through Charity Walks which have been held all over the UK.  The first Walk in 1998 raised £1,500 but the amount raised in 2017 was £690,000.  The target for the 2018 Walk is £1,000,000.  As part of the promotion of the Walk regional dinners are being held so that charities can find out more information about the Walk and how they may be nominated as a beneficiary of the Walk.

Following the recitation of a portion of the Holy Quran about the importance of charitable works Mr. Arif Ahmad, North East Regional Chairman of the Charity Walk For Peace thanked the guests for their support in coming together to attend the dinner and to promote the Walk.

Mr. Rafi Ahmad (National Vice Chairman of The Charity Walk For Peace) then presented a selection the work done and monies raised by the Walk and how people from many different backgrounds work together to promote peace, harmony and tolerance.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant spoke about the importance of different communities working together to promote good works and how, in his experience, this promotes community cohesion and a better society.

Deputy Mayor Gwen Lowe spoke about her personal experience of the Charity Walk For Peace which she attended last year with her consort Mr. Ken Lowe.  She described it as a very uplifting and inspirational event and one that she was proud to be associated with.

Charities were also each given an opportunity to discuss the work that they do locally

Cheques totaling £4,500 were presented to 5 charities – Ruddis Retreat, Moonlight Trust, Purpose of Life, Batley Food Bank and Friends of Batley Station.

Mr. Rashid Amini, Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA), thanked all the guests who attended and announced that a Regional Charity Walk For Peace would be held on 1 September this year in Dewsbury,

The whole event was live streamed on the internet and guests also recorded videos which were uploaded to YouTube to promote the Charity Walk for Peace.

65 guests in total attended the event (together with 30 members of AMEA).  The function was concluded with a silent prayer and dinner
