Friday marked the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, where Muslims fast from sunrise to sundown.
In the Northwest, those are some of the longest days in the country.
On Friday, they break the fast with many gathering for feasts, celebrations, philanthropy and gift exchanges.
People KATU spoke with said it’s a chance to celebrate the sacrifice they’ve made over the last month and also sympathize with the less fortunate.
"Using this day to bridge divides. So if you haven't spoken to someone in a long time, make sure you embrace them on this day," said Harris Zafar, national spokesperson for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA.
Zafar said after services, people visit each other’s homes to ensure there’s no hard feelings or animosity.
He also said the sermon focuses on carrying forward positivity and helpful acts beyond just the holy month.
