Faith and practice: Persecuted but willing to give

I’ve decided, as Martin Regg Cohn said, not to “give up on Pakistan merely because of its violent terrorists or venal landlords” or merciless persecutors. Instead, I’ve decided to donate money to Pakistan through Humanity First.

Re: Pakistan’s man-made disasters, Column, Sept. 14

As an Ahmadi Muslim, a member of an Islamic sect whose followers have been and continue to be severely persecuted in Pakistan, I have reason to snub Pakistan during its hour of need. But snubbing Pakistan won’t stop the persecution of my fellow Ahmadi Muslims, it won’t put an end to terrorism, and it definitely won’t benefit the millions of Pakistanis who have been hard hit by the floods.

So, I’ve decided, as Martin Regg Cohn said, not to “give up on Pakistan merely because of its violent terrorists or venal landlords” or merciless persecutors. Instead, I’ve decided to donate money to Pakistan through Humanity First.

I wouldn’t want people to keep their money from me if I were ever in need, so I’m not going to keep my money from the thousands of Pakistanis who are currently in dire need.
