Accra, Sept. 10, GNA - Maulvi Dr A. Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana on Friday reminded Muslims to demonstrate responsible citizenship, tolerance, civility, and mutual respect for the peace and development of the nation.

He said the primary objective of the Ramadan fasting was to lay a solid foundation not only for moral uprightness and spiritual development but also unity, concern for the underprivileged in society, discipline and national cohesion.

Maulvi Adam was speaking after he had led a congregation of Ahmadiyya Muslims in prayers to mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Conference Centre at Ashongman in Accra.

He said another important condition of the fasting was to avoid indecent language, falsehood and violent behaviour and trampling upon the rights of others.

He urged Muslims to continue to cling on to the good virtues they acquired even after the Ramadan for good neighbourliness and harmonious nation building.

Maulvi Adam also called on Ghanaians and Muslims in particular to participate fully in the upcoming national census in the country.

He said the census was not only a civic duty but a religious duty as well since the Holy Prophet of Islam said love of one's country is part of the faith.

He said through the census the true numerical strength of Muslims would be officially established and acknowledged for the purpose of planning for them and their children and yet unborn.
