The Principal of Nasir Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School Kenema Sandy has told his staff that His Excellency President Dr. Earnest Bai Koroma will surely come to their aid as a school that is in dire need of building materials.

He made this statement in front of the President and his entourage on Sunday, 16th January, 2011 at the building site of a 15 classrooms structure under construction situated at the Ahmadiyya compound that shared boundary with the compound of the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation Joseph B. Dauda. The President spared his time and entered the school compound during his tour of all government projects in Kenema city and its environs.

Among them is the Kenema City Hall which is undergoing rehabilitation process, one vocational school constructed by the Kenema City Council at Doorwaila reservation, Burma primary and secondary schools for the Burma community and the Dauda Town primary school located at Koyagbema section.

Arriving at the school’s campus His Excellency and entourage were given an enthusiastic welcome by the Principal, staff and pupils of the school.

The Principal Sandy Moijue said the 15 classroom under construction is as a result of government’s new policy to phase out the two shift system as recommended by the Gbamaja Commission.

He also said work is in progress on the building and it came about from the collection of school fees and contributions made by parents and staff of the school and other well meaning Sierra Leoneans.

Mr. Moijue said the staff and pupils prepared 50,000 local bricks for the work and the school now needs Le 66 million Leones to end the work so that by September next academic year the two shifts system will be phased out.

He appealed to the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) and other organisations operating in the country to help the school with furniture before September 2011 to ensure the proper use of the structure.

His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in his response praised the Principal, his staff, pupils and parents of the school for undertaking such self help project which will benefit generations yet unborn, describing the project as a laudable venture. He hoped that other principals not only in Kenema city but in the region and the country as a whole will emulate the good example of Nasir Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary school in Kenema.

He promised that he will look into their request as soon as possible.
