USA: National Muslims for Life program honors 9/11 victims

The program is intended to remember what took place 10 years ago, but to move ahead as well. You can read more about this national effort at www.muslimsforlife.org.

I can't believe we're just one week away from the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

To honor 9/11 victims, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Oshkosh is sponsoring two blood drives as part of a national program called Muslims for Life. The program is intended to remember what took place 10 years ago, but to move ahead as well. You can read more about this national effort at www.muslimsforlife.org.

The first blood drive, for which the Oshkosh Interfaith Group is partnering with the Oshkosh Muslim community, will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd.
This drive also is in partnership with the American Red Cross, First Congregational Church, and the Muslim Women's Group, Lajna. You can sign up to donate by going to the Red Cross website: www.redcrossblood.org. Click on "Donate Blood" and use your ZIP code or Sponsor Code 4699 to make an appointment. The second blood drive is Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's Mosque Qamar, 300 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh. Ahmed Khan, local spokesperson for the Oshkosh Muslim community, said in a written statement: "Founders of the 'Muslims for Peace' and 'Muslims for Loyalty' campaigns, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA invites Americans of all backgrounds to join the 'Muslims for Life' campaign and honor 9/11 victims by giving blood and saving lives."     "According to the leaked cable, Khan said that the government is catering to the "disastrous policies" of Islamic parties in the four-party ruling coalition to ensure that it won the 2006 elections. He blamed the government's decision to ban books of the Ahmadiyya sect and not to follow-up on attacks in Sylhet on the then British High Commissioner in Bangladesh and city mayor on its need to protect the Islamists."
