The following story is adopted from a report filed by Mirza Ahmad, local director of interfaith outreach for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Columbus, Ohio.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque in Columbus held a blood drive from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm on September 11.
The local community members along with one non Ahmadi Arab Muslim and three non Muslim Christians friends donated 20 bags of blood on behalf of Muslims for Life campaign.
The Muslims for Life campaign is being held nationwide by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community of the United States to commemorate and honor victims of 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The campaign organizers are working towards collecting 10,000 units of blood, their stated goal for the nationwide campaign that may save as many as 30,000 lives.
On this 10th anniversary of the attacks, organizers say, goal to save 30,000 lives is a symbolic number representing 10 times the lives lost on 9/11.
The local NBC television channel 4 came to covered the event, and interviewed and filmed different blood donors.Simultaneously with the blood drive an Interfaith symposium was also held at the mosque on the topic of ‘Exploring our Various Traditions’ Perspectives on Making Peace.’
There were several speakers including from Buddhist and Christian faiths.
Ahmadi Muslim speaker also addressed the interfaith gathering.
There were 15 guests including 3 pastors from different churches who supported the blood drive and symposium.
The local TV channel 4 aired the blood drive report in their 6:00 pm local news segment.
