The International Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, with presence in 197 countries, selected Guatemala to train Canadian missionaries in order to expand its presence in Latin America, one of the community leaders announced on Thursday.

"The missionary project seeks to expand from Guatemala towards the rest of the Latin America", it was affirmed in a press conference by Mr. Mubarak Nazeer who serves as the national vice president of the Ahmadiyya community of Canada.

The community already has members in Ecuador, Bolivia, El Salvador, Chile and Panama, but now seeks to enter other countries in South America.

Nazeer explained that the Canadian missionaries arrive in Guatemala for adaptation and "to learn about the culture and language (Spanish)", and use it in their travels around the region.

According to the sources close to the religious community, the International Ahmadiyya Muslim Community may have as many as 200 million followers in 197 countries and the group is globally recognized as a peaceful movement.
