Radicals disobey beliefs of the Quran | Letter

They are misguided, and their actions must not be equated to the true face of Islam. But to overlook such atrocities on the notion that all faiths have a radical fringe is not a reasonable reaction, either.

Regarding the British soldier savagely killed in a London machete attack:

The brutal attack is mind-numbing. What is more atrocious is the audacity of the assailant to linger on the scene and solicit attention from passersby. The media can continue to call this individual, and others of his ilk, lone-wolf Jihadists, but the harsh reality is that the increasing violence and rage of these hate-mongers is a menace that must be curbed.

The Tsarnaev brothers, and these attackers, are disillusioned and using the religion of Islam for venting their pent-up and hyped grievances. They are misguided, and their actions must not be equated to the true face of Islam. But to overlook such atrocities on the notion that all faiths have a radical fringe is not a reasonable reaction, either.

Muslims need a dire introspection as to why some within their ranks are resorting to violence and attacking their fellow countrymen. Ambivalence about allegiance to the nations wherein they reside results in such carnage. The Quran has clear injunctions in this regard: "O ye who believe! Obey God, and obey His Messenger and those who are in authority among you."

Those who ignore this are failing on both accounts — disobedience to their faith and disloyalty to their nation.
