Bradford West Gwillimbury Mayor Doug White said that the leaders of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community had told him, when they first purchased their property on the 10 Sideroad BWG, "When we come to a community, we dedicate ourselves to that community, we will raise funds for that community, we will open businesses in that community, we will organize events."
Mayor White praised the AMJ Community for keeping its promises - by being deeply involved in the community, and organizing the annual Run for Bradford (BWG), as a fundraiser for Recreation, Library facilities, and heritage preservation.
He was speaking at the 3rd annual Run for Bradford, a 5K Run and 3K Run/Walk that took place at the Ahmadiyya property, on Saturday, June 8, 2013 - attracting hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages.
Dr. Aslam Daud, General Secretary of AMJ Canada and chair of the Humanitarian organization, Humanity First, also spoke at the opening ceremonies on Saturday. He noted, "The Run for Bradford is actually a message to the community," that "this is our home," and that the AMJ Community is committed to improving local facilities, and quality of life.
"We care for health and fitness," Dr. Aslam Daud said, "and at the same time, we are giving back to the community."
The event included soccer games, volleyball, a Bouncy castle for the kids, displays by the local Fire Dept. and South Simcoe Police, a BBQ - and trophies and medals for the winners of the 5K and 3K Runs. Approximately 170 runners and walkers participated in this year's event.
