A LITTER-STREWN part of Halesowen has been cleaned up after over 20 volunteers rolled their sleeves up to make a difference.

Local councillors, residents and community volunteers gave up their time to improve KFC and the Travelodge in Halesowen and cleared 19 bags of rubbish.

The community litter pick, which was organised by Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris, was intended to clear the park of rubbish to make it a nicer, cleaner place for local families to enjoy.

More than twenty people, including volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, pick up rubbish from the side of the dual carriageway and the car park in Cobham Road.

As well as the litter, the group recovered an abandoned sofa and fridge, which were collected by Dudley Council.

Thanking the volunteers who came to help, James Morris said: “I would like to thank everybody who gave up their Saturday morning to help us to clean up some of the rubbish from the banks by the hotel car park.

“It is always depressing to see the amount of litter left by a some inconsiderate people, the fact that so many people were willing to join us shows just how much most residents care about our local environment.

"The event was the latest in a series of community litter picks, following on from clean-ups along the River Stour, Hurst Green Park and Newfield Park.

"Mr Morris added: “If you would like to help me to organise a clean-up in an area near you, please let me know on 0121 550 6777.”
