Canadian Muslim community urges for calm and prayers as Charlie Hebdo publishes millions of copies defaming Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada holds special prayers across Canada for world peace.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada has categorically condemned the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket in Paris, France. We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the victims and those left bereaved. The perpetrators of the brutal attack on Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket may seek to justify their acts in the name of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but their actions have no relation whatsoever to the true teachings of Islam.

In light of Charlie Hebdo’s decision to publish more cartoon depictions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at is urging all Muslims for calm and holding special prayers for world peace. Islam does not limit or censor one’s freedom of speech, expression or religion, although Islam teaches to never intentionally hurt anyone’s feelings. It is a well-known fact that Muslims hold Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) very sacred and dear to their hearts. The decision to publish more cartoon depictions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) could increase the divide between Muslims and non-Muslims living in Europe and the rest of the Western world.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at will continue to present the peaceful character and practise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through its publications and public programs across Canada. All community members from Newfoundland to British Columbia will be holding special prayers for world peace. The community prays that may God free the world from all forms of disorder and may this current state of conflict transform into a state of peace and harmony.
