The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s (AMC) Women’s Auxiliary will host an interfaith symposium from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Baitul Ikraam Mosque, 1850 Hedgecoxe Road in Allen.

The AMC is a rapidly growing international revival movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the community spans 200 countries, with membership exceeding tens of millions. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the first American-Muslim organization. The Ahmadiyya has been at the forefront of a peaceful movement attempting to create brotherhood and peace by showing tolerance at all levels of society.

The event, for women only, will feature speakers of Hindu, Jewish, Christian and Islam faiths in an effort to improve understanding between women of different religions and stress tolerance and respect for believers of other faiths.

“Religions have always coexisted peacefully,” said Ismat Mahmood, Tabligh secretary of Women’s Auxiliary Dallas. “It is the personal political agenda of people that has abused the nature of religion. We need to separate religion from state and have complete justice by all nations towards each other. When a nation will treat its citizens equally, no matter what faith they are from, we will see peaceful coexistence of religion.”

Mahmood also stressed that when believers understand the message of other religions, it can erase the fear of the unknown.

“Knowledge is power,” she said. “When people will learn about the religions’ true aspects and not what is infiltrated by terrorists, then negative perceptions will change. We need to continue to have interfaith dialogue that has been our community’s priority.”

Mahmood said that a small percentage of the population has skewered many people’s perception of the Islam faith in a negative light. The symposium, she said, was designed to initiate a dialogue between women concerning what is true and false about Islam.

“The current perception of Islam in America unfortunately has been greatly affected by unjust and barbaric practices of the terrorists around the world,” she said. “The view by the Muslim nations in regards to the terrorist is that they are not Muslims; they do not follow the teaching of Islam.”

The program will be followed by a Q&A session and refreshments. RSVP to Mahmood by calling 214-326-9152 or emailing dallastabligh@lajnausa.net, or call Amtul Rahim at 469-688-0290.
