Tributes have flooded in from around the world to a former New College Nottingham student who became the first Briton to die fighting the Islamic State in Syria.
Konstandinos Erik Scurfield was described by his heartbroken family as a man of "courage and honour", while lecturers remembered him as an "excellent student and well-liked young man".

Yesterday Dan Jarvis, Labour MP for Barnsley Central, said: "My first thoughts are with the Scurfield family. They came to me a few weeks ago very worried for their son's safety and tragically it appears their worst fears have been realised.
"I have been in touch with them and will be doing all I can to support them.
"Erik was an experienced former Royal Marine who was horrified by the atrocities being carried out by ISIS.
"His family's understanding was that he travelled to Syria hoping to provide medical and humanitarian support as an expert in battlefield medicine."
In a statement the family said: "His flame might have burned briefly but it burned brightly with love, courage, conviction and honour and we are very proud of him."
Muslims in Nottingham have condemned the fighting in Syria.
Dr Irfan Malik, general secretary of Nottingham Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said: "We are as shocked and concerned by this as anyone else. Every week we are spreading the message of true Islam in Nottinghamshire.
"ISIS are not Muslims and they are not following our religion. We have a religion of peace and we do not want to be represented by them in anyway. We are completely against what ISIS is doing in Syria and we should all be working hard to reduce radicalism in our community."
Mr Scurfield died in the Al-Hasakah province of Syria on Monday.
He was reported to have travelled to the country around three months ago and joined the group know as the Lions Of Rojava – a Kurdish movement whose Facebook page urges people to join and help fight the Islamic State.
