Sindhutai Sapkal, an Indian social worker, is honored with 2014 Ahmadiyya Muslim Prize for the Advancement of Peace at Peace Symposium - 2015, held by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of UK.
Sou. Sindhutai Sapkal also known as Mother of Orphans is a social activist known particularly for her work for raising orphan children.
Themed 'Religion, Freedom and Peace', this year's event included a talk from Professor Heiner Bielefeldt, UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Religion.
Among other speakers, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon spoke about how Islamic values have so much in common with the British values and UK's Minister Justine Greening observed that the work the Ahmadiyya community does is vital and deserves to be recognized.
Minister Greening also said that the first victims of extremism are the rights of women.
In early part of his keynote address, the Khalifa of Islam and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's worldwide leader, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said policymakers and governments aren't talking all the necessary steps to stop extremism.
"It is not just the Muslim world who should be worried about the current state of affairs.. It is a cause for concern for the entire world"
"Nations are seeking to outdo one another in terms of military spending.. There are underlying motives behind it," he asserted.
His Holiness's address is still in progress as of the filing of this report.
