MONROE, Wash. -- Planned months ago, an interfaith gathering at the Bait-ul-Ehsan Mosque Sunday night likely happened at a perfect time. Dozens of people filled the hall as leaders from different religions met to discuss peace beneath the cloud created by Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris, France.
"It's a cancer. The only cure is surgery. To crush them," said Imam Zafar Sarwar of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Seattle of the group known as Islamic State.
Local leaders from the Islamic, Sikh, Jewish and Christian faiths led the discussion "Pathways to Peace."
"So much of the conflict in the world is rooted in religious tradition," said Rabbi Yohanna Kinberg of Temple Kol Ami, "It seems that in recent times, that has spun out of control.
"Extremism is the problem," she continued. "It's that darkness that's our true enemy."
"All the faiths have the same things," said Ish Singh from the Sikh Center of Seattle, "When we do something like this together, it reiterates that."
