Posters asking to “kill the Muslims” were found in a classroom on Tuesday at the University of Southern Maine in the United States.
According to the university officials, the graffiti was made over a poster that explain what to do in case of an active shooter scenario. They remain unaware over the initiation of the graffiti – whether it was by a student or a break in.
The incident comes months after alt-right groups used anti-Muslim slogans in a student government office.
Perplexed by the situation, the faculty and students held a meeting in the school’s multicultural centre on Wednesday where they talked about educating students to respect different faiths and ethnicities.
“I, at least, want people to know that’s not okay,” said Mazin Ahmed, a freshman at the school. “I want a large group of people, the whole community to stand up and tell that person it’s not okay.”
The school’s executive director of public affairs, Bob Stein said while they cannot “necessarily control everything that happens” they can still choose how to “respond to these incidents”.
“We will take it as seriously as one possibly could and try everything we can to find out who did it,” he said.
The university has asked people to come forward if they have any information regarding the incident.
