The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Malta will host an interfaith dialogue and Peace Conference.
The program which is scheduled for February 27, 2010 will be held at Grand Hotel Excelsior – Floriana at 6:30 PM.
Many faiths will be represented at the conference which include Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, among others.
Explaining how the event came about, Laiq Ahmed Atif, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Malta stated that It is a long tradition of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to organize such ‘PEACE CONFERENCES’ regularly.
Various speakers from different sections of society and religious representatives of various denominations will deliver talks on the importance of peace and how to establish peace in society from their perspective.
These programs will serve the aim that every religion would come to know more about the opinions of others and thus a better atmosphere of love and understanding will be developed.
According to the program, Laiq Ahmed Atif will welcome the guests and open the program with introduction to the event and Prof. Guido de Marco, President Emeritus, Malta will follow and speak on the topic of ‘Peace, a universal need.”
The names on the speakers’ list include Rabbi Herbert Richer, Rabbi Emeritus Temple Israel Johannesburg, representing Judaism; Rev. Dr Hector Scerri, Head of the Department of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Malta, representing Christianity, and Mr. Abdullah Wagishauser, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Germany who will represent Islam’s perspective on peace.
The organizers hope that these programs will serve the aim that every religion would come to know more about the opinions of others and thus a better atmosphere of love and understanding will be developed.
“An intensive and continuous dialogue amongst different Religions is an important ingredient in promoting peace and harmony in the society,” says Mr. Atif. “One possibility is to exchange information on different important topics such as ‘Establishing Peace in Society’ and ‘The Teachings of different Religions about Peace’.”
A question and answers sessions will follow after the speakers have concluded and refreshment will be served.
The program is free and open to public. However, those interested in participating should contact the organizers to confirm their participation and receive entry information at least two days prior to the program.
