Faith and common sense: Belgium has a new top export - extremism

Going forward, get your chocolate from Germany and switch to pancakes instead of waffles.  Now, the only export coming out of Belgium is extremism, packed with the confetti that used to be their Constitution.

April 30: Belgium used to be famous for waffles and chocolate.  Now, their new specialty is extremism.  If the Belgium Senate gives the final approval on a face veil ban, Belgium will join an exclusive club of countries who have passed legal mandates on dress code—Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Belgium is a nation that prides itself as a secular democracy, but seeks to join the two nations who lead the world charts in religious discrimination and human rights violations.  Those women who choose to continue to practice their faith will receive a monetary fine and up to seven days in jail.

Any logical government should realize that something is horribly wrong when their legislative behavior begins to mimic the likes of Saudi Arabia and Iran.  Not the Belgium government, however.  In a near unanimous vote, 134 Belgium MP's voted in favor of the ban.  Only 2 abstained.

Belgium is attempting to show the world how wrong it is that Muslim women are 'forced' to dress a certain way. Their solution? Force them to dress a different way.  Alas, the incredible irony.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International is sounding the alarm.  John Dalhuisen is Amnesty International's expert on discrimination in Europe.  He explains that such a ban is a direct violation of a Muslim woman's freedom of expression and religion. "Such a ban sets a dangerous precedent," he offered.

Let alone the International Charter of Human Rights, this ban will violate Belgium's own Constitution.  Title II, Article 11 of the Belgian Constitution states, "..laws and decrees guarantee notably the rights and freedoms of ideological and philosophical minorities."

What value will the Belgian Constitution have if this ban passes?  A Nation that cannot protect its own Constitution can never be counted on to protect its own Citizens.

Going forward, get your chocolate from Germany and switch to pancakes instead of waffles.  Now, the only export coming out of Belgium is extremism, packed with the confetti that used to be their Constitution.
