I was pleased to see that an international Muslim community – the Ahmadiyya Muslims, condemn the act of terror that occurred in Times Square on Monday. As Muslims I join with Naseem Mahdi the national vice president of this community and I condemn these acts. Mr. Mahdi pursued an aggressive campaign to present the true Islamic position at the National Press Club, the Washington Post and on Fox news.
It is this type of determination that is required to “out” these terrorists in our midst. They display disloyalty to our nation and they give all Muslims and Islam a negative image. Such acts of terror and cowardice betray their low character. As Muslims we must lift our voices above this minority fringe that seeks to spread hatred and fear as Islamic virtues.
Islam requires us to not sew disorder in the land. This statement comes directly from our Holy Qur’an. It presents God as condemning disorder and presents the best people as those who promote peace and cooperation.
Extremists in places like Pakistan has subjected their majority Muslim population to terror attacks for some time. Faisal Shahzad the accused Time Square bomber is a Pakistani. We must resist attempts by such groups to export these acts from other places to our home here in the United States. I concur with Mahdi that our very social and economic survival here in the United States will be challenged if we do not expose these terrorists and distance ourselves from them.
