Large cache of weapons recovered. Intelligence reports indicate most terrorists present in certain parts of city
LAHORE: Law enforcers have arrested three outlaws who allegedly provided weapons and ammunition to the terrorists responsible for the attack on Ahmedis’ worship places in the provincial capital, sources told Daily Times on Monday. The sources said that law enforcers had conducted a raid on a militants’ hideout located in the Raiwind area and had recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.
Weapons: The sources said that acting on information provided during an investigation of two recently arrested terrorists, Rana and Hafeez, a special team of law enforcers, including intelligence agency personnel, had raided the hideout on Monday. Law enforcers arrested three militants, Sher Afzal, Kamran Naveed and Waheed, from the hideout. During the initial interrogation, they revealed the existence of a hidden weapon and ammunition store in the same house. After a thorough search, law enforcers found the hidden store and recovered a large number of weapons, including AK-47s and other lethal firearms. The sources said the investigators had followed the reports that intelligence personnel had forwarded to them after the attack on the office of the Special Investigation Agency in Model Town.
Reports: The sources said that the intelligence reports had declared certain areas of the city to be possible locations of terrorist hideouts, in particular the areas of Township and Green Town.
In a search operation carried out after the attacks on the Ahmedis’ worship places, law enforcers arrested several suspects from these areas, the sources revealed, adding that they also found a small hospital in the Township area where three Afghan nationals had been hiding. The Afghans were being treated for injuries they had received while fighting the army in North Waziristan, the sources claimed. The sources said that investigators had already marked these areas in the city as probable terrorist hideouts, and believed that terrorists responsible for the attack on Jinnah Hospital were also hiding in these areas. The sources said that the recent arrests had been made as part of an ongoing investigation. The police had arrested Muaz, one of the terrorists responsible for the attack on Ahmedis’ worship places, during the attack. Muaz had informed the investigators about his two facilitators, Rana and Hafeez. After conducting several raids, the police had found both men in the Shahdara area.
