Just a few weeks ago, Fahim Malik from New York City ran his first Marathon on behalf of Humanity First, USA.
Malik, who originally got into running so he could keep up with his growing son, did not know that in doing so he will inspire many to do such events and help raise funds and awareness for Humanity First, a disaster relief organization.
Nusrat J. Qadir of Humanity Fisrt, USA is thrilled by the enthusiastic response thus far.
"The hope is that this race will help the phase 2 efforts of Humanity First USA's work in Haiti," says Nusrat Qadir, who manages corporate compliance matters for Humanity First.
Malik, known as a 'die-hard supporter of Humanity First,' got his wish for raising awareness about Humanity First and its work in Haiti.
Saleem Qadir, a father of three and former leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organization of Silicon Valley got wind of Fahim's efforts through his sister, Nusrat Qadir, and asked if he could do the same. He pledged to dedicate a race for Humanity First.
The word got around and Luqman Malik, a father from Los Angeles was inspired by Saleem. Malik quickly pledged to participate.
Saleem's friend Tyrone Cofield and his wife Katisha agreed to participate as well.
Goodness is contagious and Facebook is an incredible resource when used rightly to perpetuate goodness. Upon seeing Saleem's efforts on Facebook Nusrat Qadir's high school friend Eduardo Tiscareno called asking how he could participate as well.
One person, Fahim Malik, clearly helped and inspired others vie with another in good works.
For those unable to do an event as such, Says Nusrat Qadir, one can still participate by contributing a small donation to support the runners.
"No amount is too small and a note along with your donation really motivates their efforts," said Nusrat Qadir.
Nusrat Qadir, a neonatal intensive care unit R.N by profession, is a graduate school student and has been a front line volunteer for Humanity First; and also serves as a member of the national media team for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Humanity First, USA hopes the race will help the phase 2 efforts of Humanity First USA's efforts in Haiti.
In this phase, Humanity First, USA efforts includes sponsoring Haitian orphans and all runners chose this effort to be the focus of their race dedication.
