MUSLIMS will celebrate Australia Day at Ahmadiyya’s Baitul-Huda Marsden Park mosque on Sunday, January 30.
They will also join the rest of the nation on Wednesday, January 26 to celebrate the event.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of Australia is opening its Marsden Park mosque doors to the public for its festivities.
The event has been a regular part of their calendar since 2007 and is an opportunity for people who have never seen a mosque up close.
Association external affairs secretary Mirza Ramzan Sharif said it was a way of strengthening their members and reaching out to the broader community.
``It is tradition of the Holy Prophet that a love of a nation (country) is part of faith,’’ he said.
``By celebrating we instill the love further, particularly in our younger generation. There will be collective prayers where we will all pray in our own way, especially for all the people (affected) by the Queensland floods.’‘
Mr Sharif said the association frowned upon the burning of the Koran and said they had no place for Muslims with extremist views.
``We don’t associate with persons like that and really try to focus on the positive.’‘
National vice president Khalid Saifullah said their motto was ``love for all hatred for none’‘.
``We are a group of Muslims who come from places like Fiji, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan,’’ he said.
The association’s headquarters is at 20 Hollinsworth Rd Marsden Park. The event will run from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, January 30.
