First off, the “Islam Means Peace” event on the 9th was a huge success. Over 100 people showed up; some drove over an hour to get to it and some had just heard of the program that day. At least three people wanted to plan a similar event for their communities. The Daily Gazette did a wonderful story about it – to see it click HERE.
As people called in to register for the event, they thanked us for organizing it. Some who could only come for the talk and were unable to stay for the conversation afterwards asked to be informed of any action plan of what they could do to support the Muslims in our community.
“What can we do to support you?” I asked the people from the Ahmadiyya Mosque.
“Keep having events like this one so that we can have a dialogue,” said Hafeez Rehman, MD, president of the mosque.
“Pray for us,” said Tahira Khan.
It gave me great hope for our future. It taught me that when God embraces us, his arms open 360 degrees.
