Two more cases of blasphemy have been reported in two different parts of the country today, including the award of death penalty to a man and the arrest of a teenage boy.
According to a newspaper report, a man named Rafiq was sentenced to death by an additional session judge for committing blasphemy in Uch Sharif (Punjab). A fine of 200, 000 rupees was also part of the penalty. In addition, the penalty also declared 3 years of imprisonment and 10, 000 rupees fine to Rafiq for the same crime.
In another incident, taking place in Karachi (Sindh province), a 17-year-old student named Samiullah was arrested by police after receiving a complaint of blasphemy from the local education board who found some comments of the student as insulting to Islam. The student is said to have been stressed due to the incident and has already apologized over writing the remark in question while trying to answer a question in the exam held in January this year.
News sources report the concerned police officer refused to repeat what the student had reported because it would also equal to committing blasphemy. The police will now investigate the case.
