A teenage blasphemy suspect accused of writing offending remarks in intermediate examinations could not be produced in the court on Friday due to security concerns, sources told The News.
Seventeen-year-old Sami Ullah was remanded in police custody till February 11 during the previous hearing.
Police had arrested the teenager on January 29 from his home in Mujtaba Town, Malir, after receiving a complaint against him from the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi (BIEK).
“The suspect, who is a first-year pre-engineering student in a private college, wrote blasphemous remarks in the answer-sheets of physics and Islamic Studies papers. Different examiners, after separately checking his copies, brought the matter to the notice of the controller examinations,” the complaint reads.
After establishing the fact that the answer-sheets were not tampered with, a complaint was lodged with the police and the student was arrested on January 29. An FIR has been registered under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code against Sami.
