Upper River Region — The ambassador of the United States in The Gambia, accompanied by a high powered delegation from the US Banjul embassy yesterday visited Nasir Ahmadiyya Senior Secondary School in Basse, Upper River Region.
The visit to the school which was founded in 1983, availed the US diplomat the opportunity to interact with the students, as well give them encouraging and inspirational statements as future leaders. She also presented learning materials to the school.
In his welcoming remarks, Mamadi Ceesay, principal of the school welcome the ambassador White and delegation to the school, saying the US has been supporting the school, hailing the US for that good work. He assured the diplomat that the books will be used for the purpose it is meant for.
For her part, ambassador White, who was a one time teacher and journalist, described teaching as the noblest profession in the world. She advised the student to be committed and focus on their education. She then commended the school peer health club for their wonderful drama on conflicts and the US stance in ending it. Ambassdor White promised to continue supporting the school in all ways and thanked them for the warm welcome accorded to her and the delegation.
In her vote of thanks, Jainabou F. Jallow, head girl of the school thanked the US ambassador for the visit, while assuring that they will make the best use of the school.
Meeting with governor, others
The ambassador and entourage earlier on had a meeting with the governor of the region Alhaji Omar Khan where they discussed on diverse issues relating to development registered under the 16 years of President Jammeh's leadership. The Ambassador also visited Unique FM radio in Basse during which she was interviewed .
